  • Nina Marie Sims 

    Nina Marie Sims, age 99, of Sedan, Kansas passed away, Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan. 

    Nina was born on January 1, 1922 near Moore Prairie, East of Sedan to Clarence Cummings and Deloris (Pumpelly) Cummings.  She attended school in Sedan graduating from Sedan High School.  After high school she attended Salina Business School. 

    On May 17, 1940 she married Thomas Eugene Sims in Independence, Kansas.  They lived in Plainville, Kansas until 1971 when they moved to Chautauqua, Kansas.  Gene preceded her in death November 8, 2006. 

    Nina was a member of the Chautauqua Baptist Church and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star; she enjoyed painting, playing the organ and violin, square dancing, was a seamstress, and enjoyed camping with her husband for many years. 

    She is survived by her three children; Don Sims and wife Carmen of Chautauqua, Kansas, Jacquie Timken and husband Steve of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Sandy Yount of Sublette, Kansas; 7 grandchildren and spouses, 21 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren; many other family and friends. 

    She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, Neil Hunt, and son-in-law Bill Yount. 

    Church Services will be held on Monday, May 17, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chautauqua Baptist Church in Chautauqua with Brother Kevin Fogerty officiating.  Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Chautauqua. 

    Family and friends may call on Sunday, May 16, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. as the family will be greeting friends at the Dickens Family Funeral Home in Sedan. 

    Family has suggested memorials to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or the Chautauqua Baptist Church and those remembrances can be left in care of the Dickens Family Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.

    I loved her so much my Heart and Thoughts are with all of you in these trying times everytime I would see her she would sing to me we always had fun

    Many years ago Nina came to my home weekly to learn more about the organ she loved to play. We had a good time and she was certainly a lovely lady.
