  • Mabel Irene Henson

    Mabel Irene Henson, age 88, of Sedan, passed away Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at her home in Sedan.

    Mabel was born on January 21, 1932 in Leeds, Kansas (Northwest of Sedan) to Harry Sutton and Inez (Wonser) Sutton.  She graduated from Sedan High School in the class of 1949.

    On February 3, 1950 she married Louis H. Henson in Caney, Kansas.  They lived in Sedan all their married life where Mabel worked as a Nurse’s Aide at the Sedan City Hospital in Sedan for 25 years until her retirement.  She was preceded in death by her husband on December 8, 2017.

    Mabel was a member of the First Christian Church in Sedan.  She enjoyed painting, crocheting, walking all over Sedan, and she truly loved taking care of all of her grandkids.

    Mabel is survived by one daughter; Kathi Wood and husband John of Sedan, Kansas; one brother, Edgar Sutton of rural Grenola, Kansas; one sister, Patsy Rusteburg  and husband Norb of St. Louis, Missouri; five grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild with another on the way; many other family and friends.

    She was preceded in death by her son, Karl L. Henson, her husband Louis, three sisters, Margery Gibbs, Louise Chrisman, and Dorothy Smith; four brothers, Dale Sutton, Delbert Sutton, Bobby Sutton, and Joe Sutton.

    Private family graveside services will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan with Pastor Penny Goldberg of the First Christian Church officiating.

    Family and friends may call on Sunday, May 17, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends at that time.  Due to Covid-19 there will be restrictions of number of people in the funeral home at that time.  Viewing will be held at the Dickens Family Funeral Home in Sedan.

    Family has suggested memorials to the Sedan City Hospital and those remembrances may be left in care of the Dickens Family Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, KS 67361.

    Kathi, I’m so sorry to hear about the death of your mom. My prayers of comfort are with you and all of her family.
