  • Sedan  – Mary Blanche Urie, passed away on May 17th, 2019 at the age of 103 years and 8 months at Guest Home Estates in Caney, Kansas.

    She was born on  September 4th, 1915 in Stigler, Oklahoma to Edward and Blanche (Dean) Walker.

    Mary went to her first year of school at Shawnee, Oklahoma and her second year in Frederick, Oklahoma.  Her family moved to Foraker, Oklahoma when she was 7 years old.  She graduated high school in Foraker in 1933.

    On October 29th, 1934 she married Armon O. Urie in Sedan, Kansas.  They moved to a farm in rural Sedan on Moore Prairie in March of 1935.  In 1941 they moved to their homestead on Moore Prairie where she resided until 2003 when she moved to Sedan.  She was preceded in death by her husband Armon in October of 2000.

    Mary worked various jobs throughout her lifetime, retiring from Sedan State Bank in 1977.  She worked part time in the solid waste office the next two years.  She and Armon attended the Assembly of God Church in Sedan for 51 years and later transferred to the Wauneta Methodist Church where she played the piano.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Woodrow.

    She leaves to mourn her passing a son Richard and wife Glenda of Moore Prairie; Granddaughters, Kim Holt and husband Doug of Cedar Vale, Kansas, Dawne Stevenson of Topeka, Kansas, and Kay Copple of Cedar Vale, Kansas; one grandson, Rusty Rhodes and wife Shannon of Foraker, Oklahoma; Great-Grandchildren, Andrew Holt and wife Natasha, Denton Holt and wife Alyssa, Chelsea and husband Lance Alcorn all of Cedar Vale, Kansas, Ryan Stevenson and wife Tiffany, Tyler Stevenson and girlfriend Tasha Allmer all of Selden, Kansas, Brandy Jackson and husband Terran of Cedar Vale, Kansas and Kalee Rhodes and boyfriend Chris Shull of Sedan, Kansas; Great-Great Grandchildren; Hagen, Lane, Devin, Harper, and Hunter Holt; Lakyn Sutton, Landree and Levi Alcorn, Grayson Jackson and Stormie Stevenson.

    Church services will be held Thursday, May 23, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Sedan with Reverend Bill Long of the Calvary Community Church in Bowring, Oklahoma officiating.  Burial will follow at the Moore Prairie Cemetery, west of Sedan, Kansas.

    Friends and family may call on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Dickens Family Funeral Home in Sedan.

    The family has suggested memorials to the 4-H Building in Sedan and may be left in care of the Dickens Family Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.

    Mary was a god loving, musical and loving woman. She was loved by lots and lots of family and friends. She loved her family so much and you could see it in her face. Lord received an excellent angel. Love, Bill and Sara Seller

    Richard and family, I'm so sorry to learn of Mary's death. She was such a nice lady and was very helpful to me when I worked with her at Sedan State Bank during the summers of 1965-1968. I hope you have many wonderful memories to comfort you now and in the days ahead. Cathy Casement-McDowell
