  • Sedan – Beatrice L. von Rohr, age 94, of Cedar Vale, Kansas, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.

    She was born on April 7, 1925 to Joe Cohnberg and Sylvia (Braude) Cohnberg in St. Louis, Missouri.  She was born and raised in St. Louis and graduated from Soldan High School in St. Louis, Missouri.  After high school she graduated with her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Mathematics from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

    On June 15, 1947 she married Oscar von Rohr in St. Louis, Missouri where they made their home. She taught mathematics in multiple places at both high school and college level, including prestigious St. John’s College in Winfield, Kansas.  She taught many years before retiring.  She has lived in Cedar Vale for many years.  She was preceded in death by her husband Oscar von Rohr on October 12, 2007.

    She was a member of the Salvation Evangelical Lutheran Church in Harrisonville, Missouri, being served through visitation by her pastor. She was instrumental through the years proof reading her husband’s theological publications, and gave constructive criticism to her pastor’s theological writings. She was an avid reader, liked working on crossword puzzles and jig saw puzzles; she was a college sports fan and she loved baseball.

    Beatrice is survived by her niece, Cheryl Burns of Wichita, Kansas and nephew, John Myers of Pacific, Washington; cousin George Sensibar of Dacula, Georgia and her special friend Faye Melton and husband Ronnie of Cedar Vale, Kansas. Beatrice served as a substitute grandmother to the children of her pastor.

    She was preceded in death by her husband; one sister, Dr.  Rosellen Cohnberg, and her parents.

    Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, November, 26 at 2:00 p.m. at the Cedar Vale Cemetery in Cedar Vale with Pastor Jeffery Young officiating.

    The family has suggested a memorial to the People’s Place and remembrances  may be left in care of the Dickens Family Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
