  • Sedan – Dewayne L. Glover age 79, of Sedan, Kansas, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

    Dewayne was born on December 15, 1939 in Idabel, Oklahoma to H.W. Glover and Jessie M. (Bailey) Glover.  He was raised in Ponca City, Oklahoma and graduated from Ponca City High School.  After high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he was honorably discharged as Master Sargeant after 20 years of service.  They spent many years in Germany as well as being stationed all over the world.  Dewayne was an air traffic controller.  He later received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Wichita State University in Wichita.

    Dewayne married Donna Ditmore on January 10, 1958 in Ponca City, Oklahoma.  They built their home north of Sedan near Union Chapel in 1976.  They lived there until they recently sold it and moved to Sedan.

    Dewayne was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sedan, worked for the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department for many years as a reserve deputy and bailiff as well as many other things, he was a member of the Air Force SG Association; also liked shooting guns, horseback riding, bird watching, and especially loved music as he was a music leader at Pleasant Valley Manor for many years, he and Donna also visited every National Park in the United States; he also loved his Choctaw Indian Heritage, was very good at the Choctaw language and loved teaching his grandkids about the language.  The grandkids always called him “Mafo” Choctaw for Grandpa.

    Dewayne is survived by his wife Donna Glover of the home in Sedan, Kansas; two sons, Cary Glover and wife TaeRee of Sedan, Kansas and Jacob Glover and wife Melissa of Independence, Kansas; two daughters, Clayalee Houston of Wichita, Kansas and Cathy Glover of Topeka, Kansas; four sisters, Elizabeth Watson and husband Harold of Newkirk, Oklahoma, Rose Marie Murr and husband James of Fairfax, Oklahoma, Ramona Berry and husband Steve of Ponca City, Oklahoma, and Robin Lepkie and husband Allen of Ponca City, Oklahoma; two brothers, H.W. Glover Jr. and wife Rose of Cleveland, Oklahoma and Bruce Glover and wife Marsha of Ponca City, Oklahoma; 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Melvin Glover.

    Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held in January of 2020 at the First Baptist Church in Sedan and will be announced at a later date.

    Family has suggested memorials to the Sedan Area Foundation/Chautauqua County Veteran’s Memorial in the memo and those can be sent to Dickens Family Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.

    Dwayne and my husband, Cecil Shore worked together at the Sheriff's dept. He always had a smile and kind word for everyone. He loved God in a mighty way and I will miss him and his singing. He's singing in heaven now!

    Dewayne was always a gentleman with a personality out of this world! He and Donna were a couple to admire! We send our love and prayers to all of the family.
