  • Sedan – David Wayne Usry, 67, of Sedan, Kansas passed away, Friday, September 6, 2019 at his home in Sedan.

    He was born on September 8, 1951, in Houston, Texas to Robert Arnold Usry and Frances (Miller) Usry. He grew up and attended schools in Crosby and Iola Texas.  He later received his GED. He later attended Sam Houston State with a major in Agriculture.

    On June 9, 1972 he enlisted in the United States Army and served until he was honorably discharged on June 8, 1977.

    On May 30, 1975 he married Sue Ebert at Fort Lee, Virginia.  They lived in Texas for several years before moving to Sedan in 1989.  David worked as a truck driver and rancher.

    In 2002 David went blind and his faith in God was very strong, he recovered most of his sight by God’s grace.

    David was a member of the First Baptist Church in Sedan; he enjoyed playing the guitar, fishing, hunting, golf, bowling, and owning Corner Rock Critters with his family raising dogs; his most enjoyable thing to do was raising children and teaching them about God and life.

    He is survived by his wife Sue Usry of the home in Sedan, Kansas; three daughters, Cathy Sprouse and husband Roger of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Melissa Usry of Sedan, Kansas and Chelsey Usry of Peru, Kansas; seven sons, Larry Usry and wife Teresa of Howard, Kansas, Mike Usry of Oswego, Kansas, Andy Usry of Sedan, Adam Usry of Sedan, Dylan Usry and wife Abby of Sedan, Jared Usry of Sedan, and Timothy Usry of Sedan; one brother, Robert Usry Jr. of Texas and one sister, Kathryn Johnson of Texas; 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by one daughter Jade Usry, one grandchild, and his parents.

    Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Sedan with Pastor Mark Davis officiating.

    The family has suggested memorials to the Midwest Battle Buddies and may be left in care of the Dickens Family Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
