  • Sedan – Francis Leora Kinder Day, 90, of Sedan, Kansas passed away, Thursday, September 5, 2019 at her home in Sedan.

    She was born on September 29, 1928, in Clovis, New Mexico to Leo and Ruby Kinder, while growing up in Vinita; she helped her parents in their cookie business, Kinder’s Cookies.   She attended college at Southwest Junior College in Keene, Texas and Emmanuel Missionary College in Berrien Springs, Michigan.

    She married Charles Day, Jr., in a double wedding they had with her sister LaDell Kinder and his cousin Russell Fisher on June 27, 1948 in Vinita, Oklahoma.  Their daughter, Barbara Sue, was born in Hinsdale, Ill. in 1950.

    Leora and Charles then dedicated their life to serving the Seventh Day Adventist Church in various mission fields.  Their first assignment was to Costa Rica from 1951 to 1953.  Their son, Charles W. Day III was born in San Jose, Costa Rica in 1952.  They then continued to Mexico, where they spent 12 years doing mission work.  Their son, Carl David Day, was born in Montemorelos, Mexico in 1959.  In 1967, they returned to Kansas so their children could attend schools in English, and they worked at Enterprise Academy in Kansas.  In the summer of 1971, they accepted a calling to Lima, Peru.  From Peru, they were called to Ecuador, then Jamaica, and then back to Mexico.

    After 32 years of service to the Seventh Day Adventist Church, they retired to Sedan, Kansas, where they operated Day Cattle Company.  Charles preceded her in death on May 22, 2006.

    She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Taylor and husband John of Sedan, Kansas; sons, Charles Day III and David Day, both of Sedan; two grandchildren, April Silva and husband Nelson of Goodlettsville, Tennessee and Dan Taylor and wife Lisy of Anderson, Indiana; two sisters, LaDell Fisher of Bristow, Oklahoma and Annabel Robinson of Keene, Texas; one brother, Bobby Kinder of Colorado.

    Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 9, 2019 at the Sedan Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Francois Erasmus officiating.  Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan, Kansas.

    I knew Leora when I was married to her son Tom. She was a wonderful woman. I'm glad I knew her.

    Leora was a Beautiful woman on the inside and out. I will miss her visits with me at the beauty shop.
