  • Sedan – James Monroe Finch, age 66, of Sedan, Kansas passed away, Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at the Sedan City Hospital in Sedan.

    James was born on December 25, 1952 in Panama City, Florida to Theodore Finch and Annie Mae (Sapp) Finch.  He grew up and attended school in Florida before receiving his GED. After receiving his GED he attended a Vocational school in Florida.

    On September 8, 1978 he married Hazel Smith in Georgia.  They made their home in Florida for many years until he was preceded in death by his wife on January 21, 2008.

    James worked as an oyster harvester his entire life as well as working for the State of Florida as a corrections officer for fifteen years until his retirement.  James moved to Sedan from Apalachicola, Florida three years ago.

    James enjoyed fishing, watching sports, and auto mechanics.

    James is survived by two daughters; Jessie Habekott and husband Virgel of Sedan, Kansas and Christi Humphryes of Gorham, Maine; and one brother, D. Ken Finch of Apalachicola, Florida.

    James was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and 4 brothers and sisters.

    Cremation has taken place and a private inurnment will take place at a later date in Florida.





    Monroe was a good friend and the best father-in-law any man could hope to have. Over the past few years, I really got to know him and am going to miss our talks and time together. Rest with angels, my friend. I can promise you that we'll never forget you! We love you!
