  • Sedan – Dorothy Emma Blake, age 99, of Ness City, Kansas formerly of the Lone Cherry neighborhood in Chautauqua County, passed away, Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Ness County Hospital in Ness City, Kansas.

    Dorothy was born on February 27, 1919 in Rural Osage County, Oklahoma to George Todd and Dilla (Boles) Todd.  She grew up and graduated from Elgin High School in Elgin, Kansas.

    On October 25, 1941 she married William Harry Blake in Pawhuska, Oklahoma.  They co-owned B&W Grocery in Pawhuska before purchasing their farm in eastern Chautauqua County.  They farmed for several years before she was preceded in death by her husband on July 10, 1993.

    Dorothy lived on the farm until moving to Ness City in 2012.

    Dorothy enjoyed quilting, she quilted over 400 quilts.

    She is survived by two sons; Russell Blake of Ness City, Kansas and Alan Blake of Greer, South Carolina; two sisters, Margie Myers of Salem, Missouri and Elsie May Hill of Ponca City, Oklahoma; one brother, George Todd of Augusta, Kansas; 3 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, Bill Todd, and her parents.

    Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan with Pastor Gary Cole of the Lone Cherry Southern Baptist Church officiating. 

    The family has suggested memorials to the Chautauqua County 4-H or Leisure Years Center (422 North Topeka, Ness City, Kansas 67560).  Those remembrances can be sent in care of the Dickens Family Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.

    Dickens Family Funeral Home in Sedan is in charge of arrangements.

    Dorothy and Harry were our neighbors for many, many years. Couldn’t have asked for better. Lots of memories. Love and comfort to the family.
