• Jack Harold Harned Jr.

    24 Oct 2018

  • Sedan – Jack H. Harned Jr., age 58, of Bethany, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at his home in Bethany, Oklahoma.

Jack was born in Caripito, Venezuela, the third son of Jack and Beth (Rutledge) Harned.  His two older brothers, Bill and Mike, were proud of him, but through the years had no problem teasing him as being the “baby born with a silver spoon in his mouth”.

Jack’s father worked for Phillips Petroleum and the family lived in Venezuela for 17 years.  Jack and his entire family loved playing golf, and it was convenient that they lived on the golf course.

Jack returned to the states in 1974, at the age of 14, to live with his brother, Bill and Becky for two years of school in Bethany, Oklahoma.  At that time, his parents relocated to Shidler, Oklahoma, where Jack lived until his graduation from high school in 1978.  His father then retired, and they moved to Bethany to be closer to the rest of the family.

Following graduation, Jack worked in the satellite and insurance business in Arkansas and Oklahoma.

Jack is survived by one brother; Bill Harned and wife Becky of Bethany, Oklahoma; one nephew, Bill L. Harned Jr. and wife Paula of Quincy, Indiana; three nieces, Kimberly Cox and husband Aaron, of Clovis, California, Kristie Carman and husband Jeff of Fort Worth, Texas, and Kira Janbaz and husband Ryan of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Mike Harned. He was a loving son and brother and, though never married, was extremely proud of all his nieces and nephews.  He will be missed!

Graveside Memorial Services will be held Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Elgin Cemetery with Pastor Keunsik Lee of the Sedan United Methodist Church officiating.

The family has suggested memorials to the Elgin United Methodist Church and those remembrances may be left in care of the Dickens Family Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.

Very very nice man, I was his apartment landlord. He always showed me and my assistant respect and always made us smile by just coming in to say hello. He will be missed very very much.

My sympathies. My parents Don and Lena grew up with his parents in Elgin. My dad is 96 and living in Bartlesville now, but health isn’t good. I remember your grandfather Bill when I was a little girl. I have a photo of your parents with my dad’s brother Jim and wife Maxine from years ago. They both are deceased. I messaged their oldest son Harry and wife Karen the obituary. They live in Texas. Please feel free to contact me. I had no idea he was close to my age. Sending many prayers to you and your family. God bless.
