  • Sedan – Dorothy B. (Hanes) Morton, age 92, former lifelong resident of Sedan, passed away Monday, January 1, 2018 at the Stormont Vail Health Center in Topeka, Kansas.

    Dorothy was born on January 8, 1925 in Sedan, Kansas to Pete Hanes and Clara (Gilbert) Hanes.  She graduated from Sedan High School in the class of 1943.

    On August 27, 1950, she married Harold Morton in Sedan, Kansas.  They made their home in Sedan for the next 67 years.  They owned and operated Morton Equipment Company from 1950 until 1982 along with Harold’s brother, Ed Morton.  Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper for the company for several years.

    Dorothy was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Sedan where she was the past membership secretary for over forty years; She was a charter member of the Pandora Club and was a member for 50 years and also was in the Good Sam Camping Club.

    Dorothy is survived by her husband of 67 years, Harold Morton of Overbrook, Kansas; one daughter, Nancy Durbin and husband Randy of Overbrook, Kansas; one sister, Virginia Wright of McAlister, Oklahoma; one grandson, Nathan Durbin; three great-grandchildren, Hayley, Morgan, and Carley Durbin; many other family and friends.

    She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Ralph Hanes, and one grandson, Grant Morton Durbin.

    Funeral Services will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Sedan, Kansas with Pastor Cathy Cole and Hospice Chaplain Keith Springer officiating.  Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sedan.

    Family and Friends may call on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Dickens Family Funeral Home in Sedan with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

    The family has suggested memorials to the United Methodist Church in Sedan or the Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and those remembrances may be left in care of the Dickens Family Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
